The Journal of the Association for Laboratory Automation
JALA is a multi-disciplinary international forum devoted to the advancement of technology in the laboratory. It is the official, peer-reviewed journal of the ALA, and provides a unique forum for the presentation of method-focused scientific papers, and related news, events and products. Six issues are published each year in partnership with Elsevier, Inc., and subject and author indexes appear annually in the December issue.
JALA manuscript abstracts are indexed by
Analytical Abstracts, Chemical Abstracts (CAS+),
CINAHL, Compendex, EMBASE / Excerpta Medica,
Google Scholar, Inspec, Proquest CSA Technology Research Database, SciFinder, Scirus, and
Scopus. JALA Online and Elsevier ScienceDirect publish abstracts and full text articles.
JALA Online
ALA members may access full text articles from past and present issues of JALA. To activate your online subscription, you must first register or log-in to the Elsevier system. Registration is brief and free, and entitles you to:
- View full text online for JALA (as well as any other Elsevier periodicals to which you are a subscriber).
- Save searches.
- Create search alerts, periodical Table of Contents (TOC) alerts, and citation alerts.
- Purchase access to new titles or articles.
When you register, you will be prompted to provide your ALA membership number in the “My society membership includes this journal” box. Your ALA membership number can be found on your JALA mailing label, or you may contact JALA Managing Editor Nan Hallock at nhallock@labautomation.org. Your last name must be entered exactly as it appears on your JALA mailing label.
When searching for JALA in the Elsevier system, you must enter the full name of the journal: Journal of the Association for Laboratory Automation.
The user name and password you receive when you register can be used for Elsevier AuthorGateway and other Elsevier sites.

JALA publishes manuscripts in four main categories: Original Reports, Technical Briefs, JALA Tutorials, and Technology Reviews. JALA also publishes letters to the editor, and product and company news announcements. For more information about how to prepare and submit manuscripts, see Submissions.
Subscription Information
The annual subscription rate for U.S. and overseas members of the Association for Laboratory Automation is $90 and is included in annual association membership dues of $120. For membership information, visit our membership page or call +1.888.733.1252.

2006 nonmember subscription rates for U.S. addresses: Individual $194, Institution $266. Outside of the U.S. and possessions: Individual $219, Institution $292.
